Renewal

Annuities are payable annually, commencing with the 5th renewal fee which falls due on the 4th anniversary of the local filing date. Where a patent is issued after commencement of the 5th year of the term, outstanding back fees for renewal must be paid within 60 days from the date of issue of the patent.  Thereafter, renewal fees are payable annually before expiry of 60 days following each anniversary of the filing date.  Late payment within 120 days of each due date is provided for, with a 30% fine.  Failure to pay renewal fees when due or within the 120-day grace period will lead to lapse of the patent.
