Saudi Arabia strengthens GCC trade mark protection with Madrid System accession
Saudi Arabia has officially acceded to the Madrid Protocol, with the treaty due to enter into force on 8 October 2026.
Once in force, brand owners will be able to designate Saudi Arabia through a single WIPO international trade mark application, simplifying the process of obtaining trade mark protection in the Kingdom.
This development represents a significant step towards simpler and more efficient trade mark portfolio management across the region.
While the filing process will become more streamlined, Saudi Arabia will continue to apply its own examination procedures, opposition system and local requirements to Madrid designations.
