Two of the strongest hurricanes in living memory, Hurricanes Irma and Maria, passed over the British Virgin Islands (BVI) within days of each other in September 2017, causing widespread destruction. As a result, the vast majority of businesses and government departments in the BVI closed.

The Trade Marks Registry in the British Virgin Islands has announced that any deadlines falling between 5th September and 5th October 2017 for paying trade mark renewals or filing trade mark applications with priority claims have been extended until 6th October 2017 without incurring any late fines.

The same does not appear to apply to patent or design applications.
