The Afghanistan Patent and Trademark Office has issued new rules and regulations introducing a single class registration system for trade marks, replacing the previous multi-class system. From 11 March 2016 a separate application is required per class of goods or services.

Existing multi-class registrations and applications (filed prior to 11 March 2016) will remain as multi-class cases. Renewals and recordals of trade marks that cover multiple classes will be processed as multi-class registrations. It is not envisaged at this time that they will be converted and split down in to separate single class registrations.
